Security guard eligibility checker

Before you make the offer or pay for training, check whether a person can lawfully be registered as a security officer. This runs section 23 of the Private Security Industry Regulation Act against your answers. Nothing you enter leaves this page.

Check a candidate

Immigration status Section 23(1)(a) allows citizens and permanent residents only.

Age Section 23(1)(b).

Training completed At an accredited training provider.

Convicted of a Schedule offence in the last 10 years The Schedule to the Act lists the disqualifying offences.

Found guilty of improper conduct under the Act in the last 5 years Section 23(1)(e).

Former member of a military, police, security or intelligence force Not a bar, but a clearance certificate is required.

Currently in the permanent employ of SAPS, SANDF, Correctional Services or an intelligence service Section 23(5) bars registration while so employed.

This tool applies the requirements in section 23 of the Private Security Industry Regulation Act 56 of 2001 to the answers you give it. It does not verify anybody's identity, immigration status or criminal record, and it is not a PSiRA decision. Confirm status with the Department of Home Affairs and registration with PSiRA on 086 133 3850 before you rely on it.
