Firearm applications are refused for paperwork reasons far more often than for substantive ones: the wrong section, a thin motivation, a missing document, a renewal lodged inside the 90 day window. - SAPS charges its own fees and accredited training is charged by the provider. Neither is included, and we do not provide firearms training.

Frequently asked questions
Can you get me a firearm licence?
No, and nobody honestly can. The Registrar decides, and the decision turns on need, motivation and a fit and proper assessment as well as the paperwork. What we do is make sure the application is under the right section, complete, and properly motivated, which is where most refusals actually come from.
Do you provide the competency training?
No. Competency requires prescribed training and testing at an accredited provider, and that must be done before a licence application. We prepare the competency application itself and check whether an existing certificate has lapsed, since section 10(2) lapses competency five years after issue.
How many firearms can I apply for?
It depends on the section. One for self-defence under section 13, one restricted under section 14, and up to four under section 15 for occasional hunting and sport, reduced to three if you hold a section 13 licence and limited to one handgun. Dedicated hunters and sports persons under section 16 have no fixed limit but must be accredited association members. Our free firearm limit checker works out your position.
Can you help with a renewal?
Yes, and it is the most useful moment to involve us. Section 24(1) requires the application at least 90 days before expiry, and lodging inside that window means the licence stays valid until the Registrar decides. Miss it and the licence simply expires.
Do you help security companies with business firearm licences?
Yes. Section 20 business licences work differently from private ones and run on a two year renewal cycle, and they carry register, storage and transport duties. That work usually sits better inside the security compliance pack, which covers PSiRA and firearms together.
